Better value
From accommodation to local wine and truffles, Umbria consistently offers better value than Tuscany. The food is just as extraordinary — arguably better, and certainly more local.
Easy to reach
Spello sits in the heart of central Italy: 2 hours from Rome by train (via Foligno), 2 hours from Florence, and 15 km from UNESCO-listed Assisi. The perfect base for a week in Italy.
The hills around Spello have been covered in olive groves for centuries. The Fascia Olivata — the olive belt stretching from Assisi to Spoleto — passes directly through Spello's territory, producing the prized DOP Umbria extra virgin olive oil. The local Moraiolo variety yields an intensely fruity oil with low acidity, celebrated for its depth of flavour. At Il Frantoio, just steps from the apartment, you can taste and take home a bottle of this exceptional local oil.
